What is the difference between IMAP and POP mail accounts?General Email Questions
IMAP allows you to review and delete emails, view message headers, create
or delete folders, and search contents remotely without actually downloading
your email from the mail server. This allows you to view the same email messages
from multiple devices. You can download your email to a specific device such as
your computer, at a later time, and then delete the mail from the
server. POP3 downloads your email directly to your mail program, whether you're
using a computer, phone, or any other device that supports your email. Once mail
is downloaded, it is no longer viewable on our web mail service at http://www.webbasedmail.com or other devices. You may
select to leave a copy of your email on our servers with a POP3 account to
enable you to still view your email on multiple devices, but until it is
downloaded and you delete it from the server, it will count towards your monthly
mail quota. *For both account types, leaving email on the server counts towards the
monthly mail quota for your account, and may cause delays in viewing email or an
interruption in your mail service, should your monthly mail quota reach its
limit. To prevent your mail quota from being exceeded, you should empty your "trash" folder often to delete messages
you no longer want, and download any emails that you wish to keep or archive
at least once a month.
